O crocodilo 1st Primary
Monica has returned to the La Laguna school twice in the past few months. When asked what it was like to walk back through that door, the principal can barely sum it up in two words: “It’s hard. Where you used to see houses, now there is a huge wall of lava. Where once there were crops, houses and life, now there is only a black blanket and a set of bulldozers working on a road. “We have even lost our landmarks. The environment has changed so much that we no longer know how to locate ourselves,” they say.
A few months ago, Ana received a video of the volcano emitting gases with a message, “Amiga, I can’t believe it. Is it true that it reactivated?” “I was at home, I ran up to the roof. “Not again,” I thought. I became aware that my legs began to tremble,” the secretary recounts.
The feeling of guilt sometimes runs through many palmeros and palmeras. “We are not to blame for the way nature works, but sometimes you feel bad even for saying that you are going home,” describes Monica.
