MONUMENT TO THE COSTALERO.BRENES
There are various theories about the current name of this place; as such, it first appears with Reconquistar, cited in various documents, especially in the Repartimientu de Sevilla, where it is cited with the variants of Brenes, Brens, Bienes and Bris.
A third theory is based on the existence of a pre-Muslim saint, who enjoyed fame in the kingdom, and to whom people came on pilgrimage to find her in the area of the monastery where she lived: she was Saint Verenia or Berenne, from which etymologically derives Brenes.
From the fall of the Caliphate of Cordoba until the middle of the 13th century the silence about Billa Nuba al-Bahriyyín was absolute. When it is mentioned again in Christian sources, such as the Book of the Distribution of Seville, it would already be identified with the Latin name of Brenes.
The coat of arms of the council of Brenes is formed by an olive grove and a pine tree rooted in a hill, both in their natural colors. The shield also contains the Ancient Royal Crown of the Middle Ages. Embedded, it has a parchment cartouche gules.
